During the 1300s and 1400s, the art scene in Florence was extremely turbulent. These were the years of the renaissance. Things were changing. Antwerp was one of the richest cities in Europe during the lifetime of Peter Paul Rubens. Because of this, there were many people willing to patronize him for his artwork. This allowed him to have many oppurtunities to paint, making him the great artist that he was.
